Amazfit T-Rex 2: the new rugged smartwatch acquires its most hotly-awaited features via its latest software update
Many fans of pursuits such as mountain biking, hiking or snowboarding may have been drawn to Amazfit's latest T-Rex 2, as the Zepp Health brand touted its 2nd-gen rugged-type smartwatch as one capable of importing and displaying routes right on its round AMOLED display. A user could also apparently use Real-time Navigation alongside it for potentially improved ability to find and stick to a trail without needing to get a smartphone out.
However, unfortunately, Amazfit was unable to deliver those new features in the firmware version with which the T-Rex 2 shipped. The increasingly well-known name in wearables did assure the watch's fans that it would push the features via an OTA software upgrade as soon as they were ready.
Today (August 1, 2022), Amazfit has delivered on this promise with the announcement of Zepp OS v9.22.7.2 for the T-Rex 2. Not only does it add Real-time Navigation and Route Import (which can be done in the GPX/TCX/KML formats, made either in Zepp App's smartphone UI or by other services such as Strava or local QR-code facilities), but it also enables Training Templates for this watch.
The latter allows the user to design their own work-outs by interval (or stage, thus possibly ensuring enough recovery or warm-up time as appropriate) by editing the various pre-set templates provided by Zepp. The new update should be available from now via the app on a given T-Rex 2's paired phone.
