Reviews for the Alienware m15 R4
Dell equips the Alienware m15 with Nvidia's new RTX 3000 GPUs in the R4 version. In our test configuration, the GeForce RTX 3070 shows what it can do at maximum TGP. The performance that can otherwise be found in this laptop will be revealed in our review.

The Alienware m15 R4 is a good gaming laptop with a compact form-factor. Dell put a high-powered GPU and a 300 Hz screen in a .8” thick chassis here, without skimping on the build quality, IO, and keyboard. At the same time, though, the battery life is terrible on this 300 Hz configuration that doesn't support Optimus, and the laptop runs fairly noisy and hot. These, and a couple of other small problems, make this m15 not the right choice for me, but it could be for you.

Here we test 10 games on the Alienware M15 R4 15" gaming laptop. All games running at 1080p highest settings and footage recorded on Nvidia Shadow Play. The Alienware M15 is fully stock on balanced profile (how Dell ships it) I did not apply my tweaks and overclocks for this footage so you can see what to expect with the laptop as Dell ships it.

The Alienware m15 R4 is easily one of the best gaming laptops I’ve ever reviewed. And, to be fair, for $2,150 (at least!), it really should be. You do indeed get what you pay for, between a powerful GPU, a fast SSD, a gorgeous design and a vibrant screen.

The Alienware m17 R4 is an extremely powerful gaming laptop with an extremely stylish chassis. Easily able to power all the latest AAA games with no compromises, this is the gaming laptop you buy when nothing but the best is acceptable – which means that the price will probably turn some folks off.

The new system isn't a run-out-and-buy-one temptation for owners of RTX 2080 laptops, but being able to more plausibly play with ray tracing might appeal to some. And those upgrading from an older gaming rig should be truly excited. This isn't a ground-breaking laptop in and of itself, but is still an improved—or should we say, Ampered up?—version of a system we can highly recommend.

Overall, the Alienware m15 R4 is an exceptional gaming notebook. Thanks to its top-notch cooling system with a pair of big blower fans and heat pipes galore, frame rate stability was just as blisteringly-fast at the end of our testing as it was at the start. That alone should be worth something to gamers on the go. Add that performance to Alienware's head-turning space age industrial design, Tobii eye tracking and 4K OLED display eye candy, and it's easy to see why we're giving this Alien our coveted Editor's Choice award.

The Alienware m15 R4 is a stunning notebook that hits almost all of the boxes when it comes to being the best gaming laptop. You can’t deny its raw power, incredible display and bangin’ keyboard. However, the battery life is disappointing, and the price is up there.

I never thought I’d say this, but I think my need for power has been satiated –– at least until the Intel Tiger Lake H-series CPUs come out. But in the meantime, the Alienware m17 R4 is giving me all the power I can handle. The Nvidia’s new RTX 3080 GPU with its ridiculous 16GB of VRAM tore through every game I threw at it. And the 10th Intel Core i9 processor made light work of my multitasking loads. And a straight-up chef’s kiss to the display’s 360Hz refresh rate that’s so smooth it’s making babies’ butts everywhere jealous.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
