Reviews for the MSI Crosshair 15 R6E B12UGZ-050
The MSI Crosshair 15 Rainbow Six: Extraction Edition sports a vibrant design that caters to fans of Ubisoft's popular co-op shooter. Under the hood, we get an Intel Alder Lake-H Core i7-12700H and Nvidia RTX 3070 Laptop GPU that together take on some of the more expensive competition on the market. The inclusion of a QHD 165 Hz makes this a great all-rounder, but there are a few caveats to be aware of.

That brings us nicely to the port selection and capability which is a complete joke from MSI. Slow USB ports, only one display output, and just the single Type-C connection; what is this? 2019?! MSI really has cheaped-out here, and whether or not you’ll utilise advanced connectivity, I feel that this is needless cost-cutting. Stiff competition for the Crosshair 15 R6E comes from ASUS’ TUF Gaming F15 and A15 in particular. I think ASUS’ AMD Ryzen-based model at £1700 could be a really challenging obstacle for this MSI laptop, particularly as it is so much cheaper and we saw the 16 thread, 45W Ryzen chips offering significantly higher compute performance at sensible power levels. With that said, the Crosshair 15 R6E definitely has enough going its way to make it a strong option at the £1739 deal price for May. But with the price now back up to £2000 – close to the £2199 MSRP – that completely ruins this model's competitiveness. MSI increasing the MSRP by £500 for 16GB extra DDR4 RAM is an utter joke! We found the Crosshair 15 R6E available for £1999 at Scan in the UK.

MSI remains one of the best choices for getting the best performance on a budget. The Crosshair 15 with its i7-12700H and RTX 3070 can play most modern AAA games on max settings at 1080p and achieve 120fps. If you don't mind lowering those settings a bit, you can hit 165 frames per second to fully take advantage of its fast display. The new black and yellow color scheme do breathe some fresh life into a dated chassis design, and even if you're not a fan of the new Rainbow Six Extraction game, it's far more exciting than all black. A few sacrifices have been made to keep the price low, however. Keyboard flex is noticeable, and you won't get the fancy RGB lighting effects that more expensive gaming laptops usually offer. This is also by no means the slimmest, lightest, or sleekest looking gaming laptop, but for the performance it offers, it's one of the best choices at this sub-$1800 price point.

This is weird. We rarely fail to express our impressions of a machine, but today, the Crosshair 15 might have bested us. It is definitely not a bad device. It offers a good amount of performance, and its visual appeal is refreshing, if not else. However, we were baffled by the cooling policy. In fact, this might be the biggest feature of the device. Because, to be frank, neither the keyboard nor the touchpad is something to write home about. Also, the single USB Type-C port can only be used for data transfer (and charging external devices like your smartphone). The bottom line here is that we can’t really recommend buying this laptop at the moment, but we would do so if MSI fixes the fan curves on their performance presets.

15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

76.56%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
