Dell has completely redone the Alienware Area-51 and treated the laptop to an all-new design with a window on the bottom of the case, RGB lighting and no fewer than four fans. The high-end gaming laptop is now orderable in the US. At Dell's official online store, the Alienware 16 Area-51 is offered for prices starting at $3,099, while the Alienware 18 Area-51 costs at least $3,299.
In some European markets, Alienware’s new laptops are slightly more expensive than originally announced, mainly because the base model does not feature the RTX 5070 Ti but an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU with 16GB GDDR7 VRAM and a TDP of 175W including Dynamic Boost. All configurations are equipped by an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and a 500-nit display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The 16-inch model has a refresh rate of 240Hz, while the 18-inch model offers 300Hz.
Dell also opts for 32GB RAM, which can be upgraded to 64GB for an additional $150. The laptop is further equipped with a 2TB SSD but offers a total of three M.2 slots for two additional SSDs, so the storage is user-upgradable. A rather special feature of the Area-51 are the two Thunderbolt 5 ports, but there are also two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1 and 5Gbit/s Ethernet in terms of connectivity options.
In return for the high price, buyers can also look forward to a 4K webcam, a mechanical Cherry keyboard with RGB lighting, a multitouch trackpad with glass surface and a 96Wh battery. That said, the 16-inch model is 1.12 inches thick and weighs 7.5 lbs, while the 18-inch model tips the scales at roughly 9.6 lbs. The 360W power adapter adds another 2.2 lbs.
