The Acer Swift 14 AI may not be the showstopper AI laptop it’s spelled out to be, but its other strengths make it a great choice for those after a worthwhile Windows notebook that offers the benefits of Copilot. For a fantastic blend of fast performance, long-lasting battery life, and excellent visuals for a fair price, the Swift 14 AI stands triumphant. Just keep its limitations in mind. For a similar price, you could never go wrong with an M3 Macbook Air, and if you fancy more of that Snapdragon X power, the Dell XPS 13 (2024) will be right up your alley.

It’s great to see Snapdragon-powered ultraportable laptops drop in price, even just a little, as there’s little else out there running Windows that can match them for battery life. The Acer Swift 14 AI comfortably lasts all day, delivers plenty of performance for most desktop working, comes with ample storage, and has a decent selection of ports for a thin-and-light. A merely average screen lets the side down, and the way it highlights AI-powered applications doesn’t really add much to the experience – especially while such apps are still a small part of Windows 11. Even with retailer discounts, it’s a decent rather than class-leading notebook. If you don’t need to go quite so long between trips to a plug socket, there are rivals like the Asus Zenbook 14 and its excellent OLED display that can be had for less cash.

The Acer Swift 14 AI is a thin and light ultrabook based on the ARM platform that offers decent performance and excellent battery life. The device belongs to the Copilot+ PC class, but the AI capabilities of the system are still limited. Unlike the previous Windows on ARM attempt, this time everything turned out very well: software compatibility with the system is very high, and the average user will most likely not notice the difference between this laptop and a traditional x86 system. Except, of course, for the fact that Swift 14 AI runs much longer on battery power and hardly loses any performance compared to running on the mains.

The Acer Swift 14 AI is far from a bad laptop but after using it for a while, I couldn't help but be left with the feeling that it was trying too hard for me to like it. I know AI is in the machine but I think Acer has gone too heavy on pushing these features at the expense of designing the next best 14-inch laptop. That being said, its compact form factor and reasonable performance will make it an ideal laptop for students and support staff working in creative fields.

The Swift 14 AI is an impressive showcase for the entry-level Snapdragon X chip. There's surprisingly little impact on performance and it's clearly energy-efficient; battery life doesn't get much better on Windows than this. The laptop has a few weak areas, particularly the touchpad, the webcam, and the sound, but the screen, keyboard, and overall connectivity are up to scratch, and the overall package is good-looking, highly usable, and robust. It's not quite a slam dunk on value, as at £1199 inc VAT it's going up against devices like the HP Omnibook X and Dell Inspiron 14 Plus that ship with the Snapdragon X Elite. Luckily, it brings some other advantages, like a fast 1TB hard drive and a brighter, higher-resolution screen. Throw in that awesome battery life, and it's a compelling, well-rounded option both for small businesses and some larger firms.

Given the current asking price, I think the Swift 14 AI is just a little expensive when for less you can buy the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, MacBook Air or Asus Vivobook S15, which all have superior displays. The speaker system should be better too.Where the Swift 14 AI strikes back is with that truly epic 24-hour battery life – a real feather in the Acer Swift 14 AI’s cap and a vitally important selling point. After all, who cares how great your laptop’s display is or how nice it looks if the battery is flat?My advice, then, is to wait a month or two until the Swift 14 AI starts to appear on offer for under £1,000. At that price, it’s going to be an easy five-star recommendation.

The single biggest issue is that you cannot be sure which software will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X, and that is especially frustrating as Windows 11 for Arm looks exactly the same as regular Windows 11 x86. You have no reason to think there is anything different or awkward about your new laptop so you click, you download and install and … crash. It is clear that Microsoft is putting a huge amount of time and money into Windows on Arm and the situation will surely improve but as things stand this new platform is riddled with problems.

The Acer Swift 14 AI isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty damn good. Its battery life and performance are top notch. The touchpad is great and I love the specs for the display. However, in practice, the display is pretty poor. If you are looking for something prettier, check out the MacBook Air, which is leagues brighter and offers slightly more color depth. It also features competitive battery life and performance, not to mention a better keyboard and touchpad experience.

The Acer Swift 14 AI is a perfectly decent Windows productivity laptop, then, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary. Even Microsoft’s Copilot+ features fail to excite. It’s the silicon lurking under the surface that’s the really interesting thing here. According to Qualcomm’s claims, and early benchmark results, it should outperform Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H CPUs both on raw speed and battery life, come close to Apple’s M3 on speed and beat the MacBook Air on battery life. With prices starting at £1,199 inc VAT, this would make the Swift 14 AI a tempting proposition.

Acer's Swift 14 AI is a compact and lightweight multimedia laptop which has access to Intel's brand-new and pretty efficient Lunar Lake architecture. The Arc Graphics 130V iGPU which we have yet to test had to compete with the 140V as well as its predecessors in the benchmarks.

Anyone looking to upgrade from a laptop that’s three or more years old will get the most out of everything the Acer Swift 14 AI offers. From battery life to performance across productivity apps and even some gaming, it would be a massive upgrade for a reasonable starting price of $1,199. You probably won’t even notice the same sluggishness I did when I had a bunch of browser tabs and apps open at the same time. But if heavy multitasking is your game, I still feel compelled to steer you away from this laptop simply because the Snapdragon Swift AI 14 is a much better laptop for that kind of use — and its battery lasts nearly two more hours on a full charge. More than that, though, the display offers a higher resolution and refresh rate. It’s a tad heavier and thicker, but barely.

The Acer Swift 14 AI is a competent laptop that makes good use of Intel’s Core Ultra 7 258V to deliver strong performance and battery life at a mid-range price. It’s not the most attractive laptop, and shoppers who care about entertainment (whether that’s streaming Netflix or playing Fortnite) will be turned off by the mediocre display. Still, the Swift 14 AI is a good choice for home office work, travel, and less demanding content creation workflows.

The Acer Swift 14 AI has a desirable array of features that make it an excellent ultraportable especially for mobile workers who prize performance, battery life and who need to make frequent video calls thanks to its PurifiedVoice 2.0 and PurifiedView 2.0 tech for its speakers and webcam though its marque feature, Copilot+ still needs more time and updates to achieve its full potential.

So, at the end of the day, if you want the latest and greatest from Intel – and I do mean great because of its efficiency and performance – then consider getting the Acer Swift 14 AI. For the price of just RM4,999, it’s a great laptop for that price.

At RM4,999, the Intel variant of Acer Swift 14 AI (SF14-51) is excellent on battery, great in daily work, decent overall, but anything that demands lots of compute will not be this laptop’s forte. Still, it’s more than serviceable if all you’re looking for is something that gets the job done, and you won’t have to worry about the battery holding you back while you’re on the go.

The Acer Swift 14 AI makes a good first impression with its solid aluminum frame and ample connectivity options, but it doesn’t quite make the sale. Acer’s trackpad feels cheap and even looks a bit off-kilter. The display, while very sharp and fast, is also a bit on the dim side, and the super-reflective glass will make it even harder to use in a bright environment. It’s hard to judge the value of Copilot+ certification because almost none of those features are available. What limited AI there is at launch is heralded by the illuminated trackpad. This is an unnecessary gimmick, which you can turn off. In general, Acer goes a bit too far with preloaded software, too.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Qualcomm Adreno X1-85 3.8 TFLOPS: An integrated graphics adapter that four Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors feature, as of Sep 2024. It has 1,536 unified shaders at its disposal that are said to run at up to 1,250 MHz. The underlying architecture is reportedly in many respects the same as what was used in the Adreno 730. While thankfully faster than the aging Intel Iris Xe (96 EUs), the Adreno fails to match the Radeon 780M meaning Baldur's Gate 3, a triple-A title released in 2023, is barely playable at 1080p on low with 23 fps on average. Triple-A games of 2024 fare even worse, in no small part due to Qualcomm's subpar graphics drivers.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
Intel Arc 130V: An integrated graphics adapter that lower-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 7 iGPU; DirectX 12 Ultimate is fully supported here and the iGPU also supports hardware-decoding a long list of popular video codecs such as h.266 VVC, h.265 HEVC, h.264 AVC, AV1 and VP9. It is clear the 130V isn't fast enough to run most triple-A 2024 games at 1080p. However, it's still more than good enough for an occasional gaming session Helldivers 2 and Ready or Not run perfectly well at 1080p / Low.
Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X:
SD X Plus X1P-64-100: A moderately fast ARM architecture processor (SoC) for use in Windows laptops. The X1P-64-100 has 10 Oryon CPU cores running at no more than 3.4 GHz, along with the 3.8 TFLOPS Adreno X1-85 GPU. The 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU, an impressively fast LPDDR5x-8448 memory controller, USB 4.0 support, TB 4 support and PCIe 4 support are included as well.
SD X Elite X1E-78-100: A pretty fast ARM architecture processor (SoC) for use in Windows laptops. The X1E-78-100 is the least powerful member of the Snapdragon X Elite processor series, as of May 2024; as such, it has 12 Oryon CPU cores running at no more than 3.4 GHz and the 3.8 TFLOPS Adreno X1-85 GPU. The 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU, an impressively fast LPDDR5x-8448 memory controller, USB 4.0 support, TB 4 support and PCIe 4 support are included as well.
Intel Lunar Lake:
Core Ultra 5 226V: One of the 2 slowest Lunar Lake processors as of Nov 2024. It features 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.5 GHz and 4.5 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 130V iGPU and 16 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. The 226V's level 3 cache is pretty small as compared to more expensive Ultra 7 2xxV and Ultra 9 2xxV chips at 8 MB vs 12 MB. Its multi-thread performance is very close to the R7 7730U and the R7 7735U, and it eats up to 37 W in short-term loads.
Core Ultra 7 258V: An upper mid-range Lunar Lake family processor. It sports 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.7 GHz and 4.8 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 140V iGPU and 32 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. It essentially matches the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-thread performance and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
