At Computex 2024, AMD announced the new Strix Point chipsets for laptops – and this new ASUS Vivobook S 16 M5606W is equipped with it. Now, I know that the ASUS Vivobook S’s lineup of rather confusing. We have an Intel version, Snapdragon version, and actually two AMD versions – one older generation and another is the latest Strix Point version. You have to pay attention to the codename of the laptop.

If you need a big and light machine with a great display, the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED M5606 can give you all that. The metal chassis is thin and decently solid. The OLED display (Samsung ATNA60BX01-1 (SDC4178)) amazes us with its sharp image thanks to the 3200 x 2000 resolution and superb color coverage. The 120Hz HDR display has an infinite contrast ratio and reaches 385 cd/m2 max brightness in HDR mode. The “OLED Flicker-Free Dimming” function is a life-saver for people who are sensitive to the typical pulsations of the OLED panels. The performance of our laptop is just fine for everyday tasks. Keep in mind that the tested Ryzen 5 7535HS is the least powerful CPU for this ASUS series.

AMD Radeon 880M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in June 2024 and a direct successor to the Radeon 780M. Its 12 CUs/WGPs (768 unified shaders) run at up to 2,900 MHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games such as Once Human and The First Descendant at 1080p on low graphics settings.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
