Acer Predator Triton 500
The Acer Predator Triton 500 is a high-end gaming laptop. Infused with an 8th generation i7 processor and a GeForce RTX 2080 with Max-Q Design, this laptop was forged to obliterate games, empower creativity and inspire envy from friends and family alike. Covered in abyssal black metal, we designed the Triton 500 with a purpose, which is to allow users to game, whenever, wherever, as users please. And when the LED-lit Predator-emblazoned cover flares into life, it will act as a reminder that this isn’t a typical gaming laptop. Weighing 2.1 kg, the Acer Predator Triton 500 is a light travel companion. Speed is at the core of this laptop with the display leading the charge. Acer chose a 144 Hz panel with a 3 ms overdrive response time. Farewell blur and hello clear, crisp high-octane gameplay. Users can also go on and hook up a few extra displays via the ports through HDMI 2.0, Mini DisplayPort (mDP) or USB-C Thunderbolt 3. Including the laptop screen, that’s a total of four displays play around with. Residing within the metallic shell are the six-core 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H hexacore processor, a GeForce RTX 2080 with Max-Q Design and 8 GB GDDR6, up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory at 2,666 MHz and two 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSDs in Raid 0. It delivers great performance that craves real challenges. GeForce RTX gaming laptops are powered by the NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture and the ground-breaking NVIDIA RTX platform. All Predator laptops utilize Acer’s custom-engineered cooling technology. The latest generation’s new design reduces noise while increasing airflow, allowing users to maximize the performance no matter the task. Inspired by silent, powerful owl flight mechanics Acer gave their fans a serrated edge, allowing more air to pass through. It has 59 blades, which are just 0.1 mm thick and all-metal with a stabilizing dual indent groove. There are winglets along the top and bottom fan edge and a curved fin along the inner blade to further reduce turbulence. The 3-zone RGB customized keyboard uses Acer's own Predator typeface, has see-through concave-shaped keycaps for WASD and features two integral keys to take note of: Turbo and PredatorSense. User can tap Turbo for instant overclocking or hit PredatorSense to open the utility app. With Killer’s E3000 Ethernet Controller, Wireless-AC 1550 and Killer Control Center 2.0, users have all the tools they need to clear out the online competition, keep their ping low and 100% optimized. As a conclusion, the Acer Predator Triton 500 is an excellent gaming laptop. Although it does not feature per-key RGB backlighting on the keyboard, which is somewhat the current trend, it has hit a balance between cost, appearance and performance in a slim form factor, which makes it a great contestant in the gaming laptop market. I'd say the only thing that's lacking in this beautiful package are good speakers, as the current ones are too mediocre. But personally, with specs such as these, I’d say that the Triton 500 offers a good value for its price and the only other direct competitor with similar specs, would be the ASUS Strix II for the price of RM8999 which is slightly more expensive.

Acer have brought their Triton 500 notebook just on time. With the whole laptop world slowly converting to low profile, lightweight, monstrously powered devices. Being the first laptop with RTX 2080 Max-Q we tested, we were very excited about this product. However, the expectations weren’t that high. We just think that it’s not yet time for full-blown ultrabooks that can be as usable as an Alienware 15 R5 for instance.

Acer have brought their Triton 500 notebook just on time. With the whole laptop world slowly converting to low profile, lightweight, monstrously powered devices. Being the first laptop with RTX 2080 Max-Q we tested, we were very excited about this product. However, the expectations weren’t that high. We just think that it’s not yet time for full-blown ultrabooks that can be as usable as an Alienware 15 R5 for instance.

As it stands, the Predator Triton 500 is a premium notebook that is both good looking and powerful though it still pales to its better specced and pricier sibling with an eighth gen i7 processor and an RTX 2070 GPU. There’s a dearth of games that take full advantage of ray tracing and DLSS but it does help to future proof the Triton 500 to conceivably tackle games for the next few years down the line in a capable fashion. If you’re looking for one of the slimmest and lightest gaming notebooks with an NVIDIA RTX card, the Predator Triton 500 is well ahead of the pack.

The Triton 500 has a few annoyances that I wish it didn’t have, but none of them are bad enough to be deal-breakers. The webcam is particularly awful, there’s no Windows Hello login support, all of the ports are toward the middle of the computer instead of more conveniently positioned toward the back, and, worst of all, there’s an obnoxious racecar boot-up sound effect that plays when you turn the system on, which I haven’t figured out how to disable.

Acer Predator Triton 900 PT917-71-76VT
I don’t remember exactly when, but there were times where some 21-inch models were on the market. The Triton 900 is just a 17.3-incher, but its size and performance reminds me of those times. First of all, performance, hands down maybe one of the best gaming performances in the market. A full RTX 2080 in a laptop, not even a Max-Q model. At least it comes with a 4K screen, yay! But only 60 Hz. So, I am not sure if you can really enjoy games at this refresh rate. I mean, is it really necessary? I don’t know. But at least you can experience 4K without; at least for the 99 % of the games on the market without any FPS drops. So what do you have to sacrifice in order to get this monster? No, not your first born. 4.4 kg is a lot. For sure, it will help you get in shape, but definitely mobility is not the focus here. The 330 W power brick, I guess, can be considered as real brick, but that is not my concern. Anyways, yes, performance, this is what we are after. Even though the device is heavy and really big, once on a desk, it is easy to operate. RAM and Storage are easy to upgrade. But CPU and GPU are not upgradeable. But I don’t think you would need an update at least for the next 2-3 years. Considering the fact that there is nothing better than RTX 2080 on the market yet (besides the desktop version), you definitely wont be needing anything newer for a good time. What else? Nothing really special. Just like every high-end gaming laptop, the Triton 900 is expensive. I mean very expensive. With its current price, it is almost possible to buy two RTX 2060 Max-Q gaming laptops. Then it all comes down to taste. Do you really need this much performance is the real question you need to ask yourself. For me, it sounds like an overkill. If the screen was 144 Hz, it would have been amazing. But, we don’t know if a 144 Hz 1080p version will be available. Is 4K really necessary? Overall, if you want to have something that looks different and has best possible performance, the Triton 900 is your device. But it has a high price tag and it is very hard to carry around. Would I recommend buying it? Yes and no. Yes, because why not? As long as you have the money to spend. No, because I am not sure if you will ever need that much performance. This is not your everyday device to play CS:Go. So, if you are really planning to buy a Triton 900 with such config, you better be sure about where and why you are going to be needing it.
