Reviews for the Origin PC EVO17-S 2019 (i7-9750H, RTX 2080 Max-Q)

On its own, the Origin EVO17-S is an impressive laptop that packs a Core i7 CPU and GTX 2080 graphics into a relatively thin chassis. You also get a comfortable RGB keyboard that you'll enjoy using whether you're gaming or writing a report. But things start to fall apart once you compare the EVO17-S to other 17-inch laptops equipped with RTX 2080 graphics. Our favorite among this niche group is the Razer Blade Pro 17, which offers excellent performance in a premium chassis. The EVO17-S is more portable, but we'd recommend MSI's GS75 Stealth ahead of it. Our biggest problems with the EVO17-S boil down to dismal battery life and an underwhelming display. As a result, the EVO17-S is a very good desktop replacement but not the best laptop.

Regardless, in general, the Origin EVO17-S really impressed us. It offers desktop-like performance in a relatively small package and does so in style with solid industrial design, materials and build quality. It's on the expensive end, but any laptop with this much horsepower is going to cost a few extra pesos and within its 6 pound frame there's desktop class performance to be had.

17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
