Acer Predator 8
Touted as "the audiodacious gaming device" by Acer, the Predator 8 is Acer's latest offering in the already saturated Android tablet market. Nonetheless, the Predator 8 is not just another Android tablet. Its design is menacing enough to keep one from second-guessing its performance. The Predator ColorBlast technology promises brilliant colors on its 8 inch Full HD screen, (1920 x 1080). In order to achieve maximum gaming experience, the design of the Predator 8 is kept almost bezel-free. It is further reinforced with soft grip pads on its back. Acer claims that the Predator Quadio on the Predator 8 is capable of achieving surround sound experience as it is equipped with 4 speakers. With its aim to win the hearts of gamers, the Predator 8 is fitted with Predator TacSense haptic feedback, where two specially designed motors are tuned to provide strong vibration feedback. The Predator 8 is powered by Intel's Atom x7-Z8700 1.6 GHz quad core processor with an Intel HD Graphics Gen 8-LP GPU as well as 2 GB of RAM and the choice of either 32 GB or 64 GB storage. The storage capacity can be expanded by up to 128 GB thanks to a micro SD slot. The tablet runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Its battery life is relatively short considering it being hyped as an ultimate gaming device. With a 5 MP rear camera as well as a 3 MP front camera, it remains nevertheless a fully functional tablet.Specifications

Acer took a punt on making a gaming tablet based on Android and for the most part did a good job. The love-or-hate looks will divide opinions but regardless makes the Predator 8 stand out in a crowd of black rectangles. It can't be accused of ignoring raw horsepower, either, putting in the most powerful option it could at the time from its partner, Intel.

The Acer Predator 8 has a really nice immersive feel when it comes to playing games, and this is in part down the haptic feedback provided by the inbuilt haptic engine. You could feel when the car was “boosted” and also when you crashed. It is a very similar experience to the Force feedback that you find on the PlayStation 4 controller, albeit toned down slightly and not quite as intelligent.

The Acer Predator 8 does a lot of things well. It’s a good size and weight and feels well made. Its front-facing speakers and display are particularly excellent, making it a great tablet for watching video. As a specific gaming tablet, however, it comes up short. There’s not much there specifically geared towards gamers. The haptic feedback is under-utilised. It has double the storage for the same price as the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 but its actual gaming performance can’t hold a candle.

While I'm still not quite ready to suggest that any tablet has replaced the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet for "Most Versatile", this Predator 8 certainly takes the current crown for "Most Daring". Four front-facing speakers and a shape like no other tablet - not to mention aesthetic flare the likes of which we've only otherwise seen on the rest of Acer's Predator line of gaming PCs - all of this adds up to a very unique piece of work.

The Acer Predator 8 is a unique slate tablet with a design and specs catered specifically toward gamers. It has a good screen and smooth performance, while features like haptic feedback and quad speakers definitely help to enhance gameplay. That said, diehard gamers will find newer and higher-quality titles for the iPad mini. If you're looking to stick with Android, the Asus ZenPad S gets you a sharper display and slightly better battery life for the same price. The Galaxy Tab S2 is a more expensive option, but gets you top-notch hardware and one of the best tablet screens available. And while we haven't tested it yet, the Nvidia Shield K1 looks to be a solid bet, with gaming-geared hardware for $100 less than the Predator 8.

The Acer Predator 8 is a solid Android tablet in gamer's clothing. Take away the edgy design and rumble feature, and you still have a slate with a colorful full-HD display, louder-than-average audio and fairly strong performance. That's all good, but the battery life is well below average, and Acer doesn't offer any features that truly make this a must-have for gamers.

A few surprising performance issues in the odd game let it down a bit, though. And these days it has some seriously strong rivals, in the now cut-price iPad mini 2, which has a much sharper screen, and the £100-less but more powerful Nvidia Shield Tablet K1.

This depends on a number of factors. Do you want your tablet to look like it's the product of a design partnership between NASA engineers and Lucifer himself? Then you'll be thrilled with the Predator. However, if you're after an Android tablet to which you can attach a keyboard to increase your productivity then this isn’t the tablet for you.

The Acer Predator Tablet is an affordable gaming device that has plenty going for it, including a sharp and colourful screen and respectable performance. However, the Shield Tablet K1 is even cheaper these days and packs a supremely powerful Nvidia processor, which brings with it exclusive game support as well as game streaming abilities. As a result, it’s difficult to recommend the Predator Tablet over Nvidia’s tab.

Acer Predator 8 is definitely an unusual device and we mean it in the positive way. Sadly, for the time being the unit we had is an engineering sample and we can’t perform all our tests on it, since some of its components don’t work as intended. Anyway we can add its four loudspeakers, as well as the vibration motors for more realistic gaming to the pros. The tablet a typical aggressive gaming design with combined various colors and materials in a unique-looking construction. It also boasts high performance with Intel’s Atom X7-Z8700 SoC with Intel’s HD Graphics GPU. Images appear detailed on the 8-inch screen and thanks to the IPS panel it has high maximum brightness, contrast ratio, rich and vivid colors and wide viewing angles. Last, but not least, we should mention that all the pre-installed applications and neat features, which Acer has included to the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, make the user experience even better.

The Acer Predator 8 is an interesting device since we've not really seen a gaming tablet like it. It's also a lot cheaper than rivals such as a Nvidia Shield. We're not sure about having four speakers due to the noisy show floor but we do really like the force feedback on offer. Just remember that it's still mobile gaming since the device runs Android. Stay tuned for a full review.

Acer Predator 17 G9-791-72VU
The Acer Predator 17 G9-791-72VU is a gaming beast that looks the part. Acer has certainly grown the Predator brand and the killer hardware certainly helps with that. Design is kept similar with the previous generation and the black chassis with red highlight takes center stage. Build quality is impressive and the rear exhaust system definitely aids in keeping the system cool. There is a full-size backlit keyboard with food tactile feedback and a comfortably sized precision touchpad. The Windows 10 device comes equipped with a 15.6 inch Active Matrix TFT Colour LCD with Full HD resolution. Audio quality is decent as the stereo setup is tuned by Dolby Audio Enhancement. The Acer Predator 17 G9-791-72VU sports an Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz, 16 GB of DDR4 SDRAM, and a powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX980M GPU with 4 GB of VRAM. Storage on board comes in the form of a 1 TB HDD and 256 GB SSD combination. Other features found on the Acer Predator 17 G9-791-72VU are Bluetooth 4.1, a Blu-ray writer, a card reader, a Killer Wireless LAN card, an HDMI out, four USB 3.0 ports, and a Display Port. Battery life on the laptop is provided by a 8-cell Lithium Ion cell rated at 6000 mAh.Specifications

Great performance, comfortable keyboard, beautiful display, but how well does this Predator make its growl heard? Extremely well, in fact, as the sound on offer is fantastic, with strong and solid bass emerging from the notebook’s frame, thanks in no small part to the integrated 4.2 sound, consisting of two subwoofers. Watching Overwatch’s frenetic combat, and terrific animated short, was a pleasure, and whether watching movies or playing games, you can feel slight, but not overly distracting, vibrations through the keyboard.

There’s something so uniquely PC about that damn ejectable fan though. It’s nothing but a gimmick, but it’s a gimmick that captures the imagination—the modern-day equivalent of the old TURBO buttons you used to see on PCs. It feels good to pop out the superfluous optical drive and wing it into the corner of the room like a Frisbee, then slam an extra bit of cooling into the case. Who even cares that it barely does anything?

The Predator 17 has oodles of processing power, with more than enough to handle any triple-A release, but it’s resoundingly beaten by the likes of the Metabox Prime. However, it’s also a slightly better-built machine with a nicer display, which doesn’t sound like Bronwyn Bishop is landing in your back yard.

If it was quieter and shed a few pounds, the Predator 17 would be a close-to-perfect gaming machine. As it stands, it will have to settle for merely being a great one, combining solid performance with (mostly) wise design and a dependable battery. Just don't take it backpacking.

It costs close to AED 9550, which I would say is quite expensive for a gaming laptop. However, if you are looking for a replacement for you desktop, this is a good option. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives, but the Predator’s impressive GPU and other configurations makes its prey on games today (no pun intended) and hopefully those yet to come.

Whatever way you look at this device, just so long as you're gaming, Acer has knocked it out of the park. If you wanted a smaller laptop, buy a smaller laptop - this one is made for people who want to hit that sweet spot between being mobile and having a full PC gaming experience at the same time.

The Predator 17 costs an arm and a leg, and I wish there were a higher-res screen option, but overall it's quite a remarkable gaming laptop. Compared to other models in the same price range, the Predator 17 offers similar performance but longer battery life, and a much bulkier design.

We wouldn't dwell on the benchmarks the Predator 17 failed to win. It was thoroughly competitive in every test, with performance that places it firmly in the overachiever class of top-end gaming laptops—as, indeed, it ought to be considering its $2,599 price. We have a suspicion that, if Acer had sent the $2,099 configuration with slightly less RAM and SSD storage, we'd be raving about an Editors' Choice winner instead of a mere four-star rave review recipient.

The new Predator 17 was the most promising new laptop to debut at IFA 2015, and it lives up to that promise. While it’s not the most exciting notebook at first glance, its conventional design, combined with excellent hardware, makes for an incredible all-around system. It robs the Asus G751 of its championship title and, like that rig, has appeal that extends beyond gaming.

The Predator G9-791 is Acer's first attempt at building a proper 17-inch gaming laptop, and although some minor aspects could have been done better, the laptop ticks all the important boxes and earns our recommendation. Acer has been long been associated with lower-end and mid-range devices, but in the last couple of years it proved that the high-end segment isn’t something new to the company and their latest top-shelf laptop, Predator G9-791, is the living proof. It has it all – stylish design, aggressive looks suitable for gamers, sturdy and rigid construction and beastly hardware. Speaking of which, it’s on par with some of the offerings from ASUS (ROG G751 in particular) Dell (Alienware). We are yet to see the asking price of the notebook, but we will make a wild guess that it will be priced little above ASUS ROG G751 and lower than the Alienware counterpart. Mainly because the storage upgrades on the Predator are somehow more expensive or premium, as we may say. While the G751 offers one M.2 SSD slot paired with two 2.5-inch SSD/HDD slots, the Predator has only one 2.5-inch slot and two M.2 SSD slots – one supports 2280 and the other supports 22110 standard.

Acer Predator Triton 700
The Acer Predator Triton 700 is as lightweight and attractive as it is powerful. Essentially it is a high-end gaming laptop designed to strike a balance between features and weight. From a distance, it is easy to mistake the Triton 700 for a generic model in Acer’s Predator series. The Triton 700’s hard angles, contoured edges, and matte finish are long-time hallmarks of the company’s gaming line-up, as well as the oversized hinge and stylized grates on the rear outflow panel. The Acer Predator Triton 700 takes many of its design cues from the Predator 21 X, including a teal-on-black color scheme. More prominently, though, the keyboard sits on the bottom edge of the laptop where the trackpad and palm rest normally are. Having the keyboard essentially flush to the front edge of the laptop means there’s no palm rest area. However, the touchpad’s loss is the keyboard’s gain. The island-style, backlit keys get the full width of the laptop’s 15.6-inch chassis, which is loads of space. The most interesting thing about the design is the huge piece of Gorilla Glass above the keyboard. This way users can see the internals of the laptop, including the AeroBlade 3D fan and five heat pipes. It looks pretty sweet, reminiscent of the windowed sides on gaming desktops. However, it’s not all for show, as the glass can also be used as a touchpad. While the 21-inch 21 X was a massive laptop weighing more than 8kg, the 15.6-inch Triton 700 is a relative lightweight, tipping the scales at 2.6kg and slipping into an 18.9mm thick casing.
The Acer Predator Triton 700 comes with a 15.6” FHD display and is based on Intel’s Core i5-7300HQ or Core i7-7700HQ processor, depending on the exact model. The laptop is equipped with 16GB of DDR4-2400, up to two 512GB SSDs, Rivet Networks Killer DoubleShot Pro network solution (featuring a 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi and a GbE controller), Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, and other features one would expect from a high-end laptop. The screen is a Full-HD IPS panel. It looks great with colours looking vibrant and well represented on a glare-reducing screen, although it’s a little disappointing that it is not a 1440p or Ultra HD display. The Triton 700 ships with TrueHarmony, which Acer claims that it delivers immersive audio. It’s certified for Skype for Business. The Triton 700 isn’t lacking in the connectivity department either, despite its slim design. Rounding out the specs, there is an HD webcam, Killer Wireless 2x2 11ac, and quite a number of ports for input and output. If gaming laptops were putting people off due to their weight and size, the wait is over. Lightweight gaming laptops are here and they are better than expected.

Courageously new. Acer´s new ultra-slim 15-inch Predator Triton 700 gaming notebook is nothing short of innovative. Alongside its mechanical keyboard, the unusual position and design of the touchpad makes for some interesting new looks. In any case, prepare to pay a little bit more for the extra features. The Predator 700 sells for around $3 000 at the time of writing this review while the ASUS ROG Zephyrus’ asking price is around $2 500 – 2 700. This positions both machines in a category of their own as laptops with GTX 1070 are considerably less expensive while GTX 1080 are huge 17-inchers charging a price premium. And if you are not really that into “portability”, you might be better off with a GTX 1070-powered laptop with a good cooling solution. Just a little overclocking will easily match the GTX 1080 Max-Q’s performance.

Acer got a lot of things right with the Predator Triton 700. The build quality is solid, there’s – relatively – adequate battery life, and it managed to avoid leaving a giant gap on the bottom. There are also no disappointing elements in terms of hardware. But like the ROG Zephyrus, there is quite a premium to pay for the power you get in such a slim chassis; at RM13,999, you could get laptops with a similar set of hardware for less.

The Predator Triton 700 is also really good value when you consider the competition. This top-spec model is priced at RM13,999 and if you compare it to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 — currently the Predator’s closest competitor — the Triton 700 is RM2,000 cheaper. There’s even a more affordable variant that’s priced at RM9,999 but it loses the 120Hz screen, drops GPU to a GTX 1060, RAM to 16GB and storage to 256GB (128GB+128GB in RAID 0).

The Predator Triton 700 is also really good value when you consider the competition. This top-spec model is priced at RM13,999 and if you compare it to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 — currently the Predator’s closest competitor — the Triton 700 is RM2,000 cheaper. What ACER’s Predator Triton 700 lacks in elegance and design chops, it makes up for in performance. ACER took the idea of a thin-and-light gaming machine and ran with it, stuffing the notebook with the very best components and hardware currently available to make a monstrous gaming PC. While it’s significantly more expensive than other Max-Q notebooks in the market today, the added hardware and performance bump is worth it if you have a lot of money to burn.

The Acer Predator Triton 700 ($3,000 on Amazon) is one of the most impressive gaming laptops ever created, full stop. Every inch of this rig oozes quality, from the sleek, slim aluminum chassis to the fantastic mechanical keyboard to the no-compromises gaming experience provided by the GTX 1080 Max-Q and its accompanying 120Hz G-Sync display. And that doesn’t even take into account that it was literally impossible to cram this much power into a laptop this thin until very recently. There’s a lot to drool over here.

You pay big-time for the Triton 700’s mobility, though. If you don’t mind massive desktop replacements, the 17-inch Alienware 17 R4 packs a more potent, full-fat GTX 1080 with a higher-resolution 2560x1440 G-Sync display for about $2,550 on Dell.com. The Alienware’s processor also outpunches the Triton 700’s. Yet it’s almost twice as heavy at a staggering 9 pounds, 12 ounces. Pick your poison. But for the first time ever, gamers on the go have some choices.

The Acer Predator Triton 700 fuses cutting-edge notebook design with the latest in gaming technology. The GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q graphics chip in our review unit was an impressive performer, approaching or exceeding triple-digit average framerates in the games we tested. Thanks to the 120Hz G-Sync display on this notebook, you can actually utilize most of that performance—provided your eyeballs can actually register such high frame rates. That said, keep in mind the Max-Q graphics chip isn’t as fast as a standard GTX 1080. In our benchmarks, a standard GTX 1070 performed similarly to the GTX 1080 Max-Q. We’re not necessarily complaining, as the Triton 700 still provided more performance than we’d previously seen in this form factor.

Here’s the bad news: ACER is pricing the Predator Triton 700 at Php 229,999, which is considerably more than the offering of their rival. Then again, you’re getting a lot more PC for the price, along with several freebies, namely a Predator Cestus Gaming Mouse 500, a Predator Galea 500 gaming headset along with 5K worth of Steam credits. If that price is a little steep for you, ACER will also be selling a version of the Triton 700 with a regular NVIDIA GTX 1060 inside paired with a 15.6-inch full HD 60Hz panel with 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD storage and the same Intel Core i7 processor for more than half the price of the full-fledged version, at Php 134,999.

And how much cash will you need to part with to buy a Predator Triton 700? €3,399 when it goes on sale in August. There's no distinctive UK price, but given the current climes we wouldn't be surprised if it was also around the £3,000-£3,500 mark (spec depending).

It is genuinely powerful, too, thanks to high-end components and the cooling system to keep them running at their highest possible speeds. Gaming won't be a problem, and that keyboard is among the best we've tried in a laptop. Razer still has the edge right now, but Acer has something special here.

But that bizarre touchpad, however seldom it’s used, is extremely weird and would put me off ever using this machine on the move without a USB mouse.

This $349 USD PCIe4 x4 NVMe SSD is compatible with the Playstation 5 and it's also slightly cheaper than competing drives from Samsung or Seagate. For very small file sizes, however, performance can be a bit slower than expected.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics (Cherry Trail): Integrated graphics card in the Cherry-Trail SoCs. Based on a Broadwell GPU (Intel Gen8) and supports DirectX 11.2. Depending on the SoC offers 12 or 16 EUs.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M:
Fast high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q: Efficient high end graphics card with 8 GB GDDR5X-VRAM based on the Pascal GP104 chip. Equipped with 2560 shader units and offers about 10-15% lower performance than a regular GTX 1080 due to lower clocks, but the power consumption is much lower in return.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Mobile: Pascal based laptop graphics card using GDDR5 graphics memory. Should offer a similar performance to the deskto GTX 1080. However, there is also a more power efficient "Max-Q" version that performs worse than the normal GTX1080 and is used in thin and light laptops.

Intel Atom x7:
Z8700: Soc with an integrated quad core Atom processor clocked at 1.6 - 2.4 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a dual channel LPDDR3-1600 memory controller.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Kaby Lake:
i7-7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.

8.00:
Large smartphones and a few small tablets are available for this display size. Unlike most smartphones, you can see more on the screen, more details and use larger resolutions. Such formats are better for people with defective vision. However, such devices are no longer easy to fit in a pocket, and they are probably not quite light either.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
0.35 kg:
4 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
76.8%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
