Aaeon has introduced a new and compact computer system called the Boxer 8651AI Plus. It’s based on the Orin NX platform and is available in 8GB and 16GB versions. The model with the larger LPDDR5 memory also sports eight instead of six Cortex-A78AE cores. That said, the ARM chipset is probably not the main selling point, but rather the Nvidia Ampere GPU.
Depending on the configuration, it provides up to 100 TOPS of INT8 performance, which makes it possible to run more demanding AI applications locally. According to Aaeon, the so-called "Super Mode" offers up to 157 TOPS, and Nvidia Jetpack 6.2 is supported. Possible use cases include AI-assisted product quality control, for example with cameras that inspect packaging units that move along on a conveyor belt.
Using Aaeon Boxer 8651AI Plus like a conventional mini PC is theoretically possible but probably not very practical. For instance, this device only features an antiquated HDMI 1.2 output for 1080p monitors. An M.2 2242 SSD is used to store the operating system and other data. Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports are onboard, while network connectivity happens via Gigabit Ethernet. Power can be supplied between 12 and 24 volts, and a DB9 connector is included. Aaeon’s official MSRP for this device starts at $1,341.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
