The GMKtec Evo-X1 gaming mini PC is back at its record-low price on Amazon, featuring the powerful 12-core AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 "Strix Point" APU paired with 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory and OCuLink support. Our review reveals that the performance on offer is excellent, although the soldered memory is a cause for concern.

Almost like clockwork, the powerful GMKtec Evo-X1 gaming mini PC plummets to its all-time low price roughly once every month. We reported on this deal last month, and now it appears that the capable AMD Strix Point-powered mini PC is once again available for its record-low price of just under $800 on Amazon, representing a lucrative discount of 24%.

The Evo-X1 mini PC, as mentioned earlier, is powered by an AMD Strix Point APU. To be more precise, the system packs the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU with 12 Zen 5-based cores, consisting of four Zen 5 and eight smaller Zen 5c cores. 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory is on offer, as well as a 1 terabyte SSD. Considering the ever-increasing DRAM prices, the offer seems even more generous.

Our detailed review of the mini PC reveals very little room for complaint in terms of performance, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU crushing the Ryzen 7 8845HS by as much as 25% in synthetic benchmarks. The Beelink SER9, with the same chip, does come out ahead, but that mini PC is noticeably larger. That said, folks with moderately intensive workloads will most likely be perfectly satisfied with the Evo-X1 mini PC.

Unfortunately however, the GMKtec Evo-X1 gaming mini PC does not feature upgradeable memory. The storage is a different story, thanks to dual M.2 2280 slots that can be accessed easily. Our review also indicated that the fan noise is on the louder side, although the sustained performance of the mini PC is perfectly admirable in exchange. The detailed list of I/O is as follows:

  • Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, Dual USB 2.0 Type-C
  • OCuLink
  • HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1
  • Dual 2.5GbE LAN
  • USB4
  • 3.5 mm audio jack

OCuLink enables powerful eGPU setups

There is no option for dedicated graphics cards, which is to be expected considering the mini PC's size. However, the Radeon 890M iGPU is plenty powerful, and should be enough for casual and lightweight gaming or 1080p video editing. The OCuLink port allows for extremely fast eGPU connections, which should come in handy for gamers or creators who require strong GPU performance.

All told, the Evo-X1 mini PC is a solid purchase for most users and gamers, especially those who can take advantage of the OCuLink port and impressive CPU performance. Its compact nature is also appreciated, and its current record-low price makes it even easier to recommend. Interested folks are definitely advised to check out Notebookcheck's in-depth review of the mini PC before pulling the trigger.
