Hardly any time has passed since Asus announced pricing and availability for its latest ROG Strix Scar 16-inch and 18-inch gaming laptops. However, it appears that the company could soon be updating the ROG Strix G16 (curr. $1,899.99 on Amazon) with a 2025 edition too.
Specifically, Asus has been spotted listing the ROG Strix G16 2025 on JD.com with one of AMD's forthcoming Dragon Range Refresh APUs. As the screenshot below shows, the laptop combines the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with the Ryzen 9 8940HX. Also, this variant features 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage and a 2.5K display with a 240 Hz refresh rate for CNY 13,999 (~$1,914).
Based on its naming scheme, it would seem that the Ryzen 9 8940HX will serve as a direct replacement for last year's Ryzen 9 7940HX. The listing also mentions 5.3 GHz boost clock speeds, which would represent a 100 MHz boost over the Ryzen 9 7940HX. Presumably, the Ryzen 9 8940HX will line up with 16 Zen 4-derived CPU cores, as well as a Radeon 610M iGPU that leverages 2 Compute Units based on AMD's RDNA 2 architecture. It remains to be seen when the Ryzen 9 8940HX or the ROG Strix G16 2025 will receive a full release, though.
