AI offensive: Apple will “change the world again,” says its new CEO

A historic leadership change is underway at Apple. Tim Cook has served as Apple CEO since 2011 and was the direct successor to Steve Jobs. After nearly 15 years, he is now handing the role over to John Ternus, who has been with Apple since 2001 and most recently served as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Tim Cook will remain with the company, however, and will move into the role of Chairman of the Board.
In his first internal address as the company’s future chief executive, Ternus struck a highly optimistic tone, according to Bloomberg. He said Apple was on the verge of “changing the world again” and described the current phase as the most exciting of his career. These remarks are rooted in the ongoing development of artificial intelligence. According to Ternus, AI will unlock almost unlimited potential and create new opportunities for products and services.
With that, Apple’s new chief is making clear where the company is headed: Apple wants to preserve its core values, such as design and privacy, while also moving into the future with new products, new services and greater AI momentum. This step is likely to be important for the company. After all, players like Google and OpenAI have recently attracted significantly more attention in the field of artificial intelligence.
The first signs of this strategy are already becoming visible. According to Bloomberg, Apple is currently testing four different versions of smart glasses. AirPods and keychain-style accessories with integrated cameras are also said to be in development. These devices are expected to connect with the iPhone and integrate AI more deeply into everyday life. On Reddit, however, the reaction to Ternus’ remarks has so far been skeptical. Many users see the statements as typical PR rhetoric and are calling for concrete innovations rather than grand promises – such as a foldable iPhone.
