Sony relaunches its "portable air conditioner" with higher performance.
Sony's "personal air conditioner" is getting more powerful. Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus is worn around the neck and is said to achieve a 20 percent higher cooling performance than its predecessor on hot summer days. In winter, the device can also keep you warm.

After Sony Reon Pocket was originally announced in 2019, Sony launched a more powerful Pro model on the market last year. Now comes Reon Pocket Pro Plus, the most powerful version of the portable air conditioner to date. Sony has improved the design slightly to make it more comfortable to wear.

However, the concept remains the same - Reon Pocket Pro Plus is attached to the neck with two adjustable "arms" and worn on the back. The back of the device can then be cooled or heated, depending on whether the temperature needs to be more comfortable on hot summer days or cold winter days. An air outlet at the top removes warm exhaust air through a fan to prevent the device from overheating.

According to Sony, the speed of this fan has been reduced compared to the previous model, meaning that the Reon Pocket Pro Plus should not be distracting even in quiet meeting rooms. The cooling performance is said to have been improved by 20 percent, which should reduce the user's skin temperature by a further 2 degrees Celsius. Sony supplies a remote control to control the device, but some features are only available via the associated smartphone app. Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus is protected against water splashes and sweat, but is not completely waterproof.

Prices and availability

Sony Reon Pocket Pro is now available in Europe for a recommended retail price of €229, details about US availability have not yet been confirmed.
