The Pokédex is part of the basic equipment of every Pokémon trainer who wants to catch them all, as the gadget automatically recognizes Pokémon and provides important information about them. What was still science fiction in the 90s is now reality thanks to modern technology.

The modder Mr. Volt in collaboration with BigRig Creates managed to develop a functional Pokédex with a total of five displays, 22 buttons, a loudspeaker and a camera to make the childhood dream of many Pokémon fans come true. The functionality of the finished gadget is relatively simple - the large OLED display on the left-hand side of the opened Pokédex shows the most important information and allows you to navigate through the Pokédex data of different Pokémon generations.

The larger display on the right shows the corresponding text, which can also be read aloud through the speaker. The two small displays at the bottom right show the maximum of two types of each Pokémon, while the screen at the bottom left is used for status information such as the remaining battery charge and the status of the Wi-Fi connection. The numerous buttons allow you to navigate between different Pokémon. Thanks to a camera and artificial intelligence, it is also possible to hold a Pokémon in front of the Pokédex in the form of a trading card, for example, and automatically load the appropriate entry.

This even works with Pokémon toys, sprites from a game or drawings. Using a microphone and a simple Pokémon chatbot, the Pokédex can also answer questions about Pokémon, such as the level at which a Pokémon evolves or which moves can be learned via TM. Technically, the device is based on a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 ($60 on Amazon), the housing comes from a 3D printer, only the aluminum back was CNC-milled. This Pokédex is currently just a modding project with no plans for a commercial launch.
