The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse is now available in a third variant that has a design inspired by the Commodore 64. The mouse has mostly the same features as the Xbox and NES versions, but its design makes it a perfect companion for the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard Commodore 64 edition.

The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse first made its debut in 2024 alongside the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard Xbox Edition. Like the keyboard, the wireless mouse has the same transparent green design inspired by the original Xbox console. Then in April 2025, 8BitDo announced a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)-inspired variant. Now, 8BitDo has unveiled a third version of the mouse, and its design takes inspiration from a classic device, too.

Officially known as the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse C64 Edition, the mouse's design pays hommage to the 8-bit home computer, the Commodore 64. 8BitDo already sells a C64 edition of the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard (available on Amazon for $89.99), so the new 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse C64 Edition makes for a perfect companion.

The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse C64 Edition has the same price tag as the NES and Xbox Editions.

Like the original Commodore 64 and the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard C64 edition, the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse C64 edition has a tan color. However, the scroll wheel, the sides, and the underside of the mouse are dark brown, while the programmable buttons are red. The mouse also comes with a charging dock that matches the color of the computer. You can even spot the familiar rainbow logo on the dock.

Not much has changed with respect to the specs of the mouse. The ambidextrous mouse still connects via Bluetooth or the included wireless dongle, or it can be used as a wired mouse. It features a PAW 3395 sensor, four programmable buttons, adjustable polling rate, and boasts a 450mAh battery that should provide up to 100 hours of use in Bluetooth mode and a max of 105 hours in 2.4G wireless mode. However, it features Huano micro switches, whereas the Xbox and NES editions use Kailh Sword GM X micro switches.

8BitDo has already begun selling the Retro R8 Mouse C64 Edition, and like the NES and Xbox editions, it costs $49.99. Thankfully, unlike some of 8BitDo's recent products, which won't be available for months after their announcements, the Retro R8 Mouse C64 Edition is available to buy now on the 8BitDo eShop and on Amazon.
