The new 108-key 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard grows the existing TKL mechanical keyboard — quite literally — with a full-size numpad, which will likely make the mechanical keyboard appeal more to number-crunchers, macro lovers and normies alike. The new full-size keyboard features the same retro aesthetic and extensive customisation options as its gamer-focussed counterparts, but costs significantly more money, especially considering the original is on sale.

8BitDo seems to be on a roll, having recently updated the TKL version of its Retro Mechanical Keyboard with an all-in-one package featuring a joystick and keyboard expansion buttons. Now, though, the company, famous for its retro-themed accessories has quietly announced the full-size version of the Retro Mechanical Keyboard.

Aside from the extra width brought on by the addition of function keys and the num pad, the creatively named 8BitDo Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard is identical to its TKL counterpart. This means that the new keyboard has the same clicky Kailh Box White hot-swap key switches and double-shot PBT keycaps with an MBA-like profile and bold, vintage-computing-themed keycap legend. For fans of tactile inputs, there are two knobs on the top left of the keyboard next to a row of three shortcut keys.

The feature-rich mechanical keyboard is designed around an aluminium plate and uses the ubiquitous top-mount, as opposed to the gasket mounts that have become more common in the enthusiast keyboard space. It also has tri-mode connectivity, with 1,000 Hz polling over 2.4 GHz and wired connection options. Bluetooth is also available for those who are connecting to Android.

For now, the Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard is only available in the N and Fami colour ways, which pay homage to the Nintendo N64 and Famicon consoles, respectively. It's unclear whether 8BitDo will release the new keyboard in the IBM Model M colour scheme in the future, but it wouldn't be a surprise, given how positive the reception of the latter was online.

While the original 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is currently discounted to $89.99, the new 108-key version of the keyboard is available for pre-order on Amazon at a premium of $119.99
