Wouldn't it be practical to simply print out your own handbags in various designs and colors? That's exactly what a new project on Kickstarter is now aiming to make possible.

The idea isn't entirely new, of course. For quite some time, many have harbored the desire to easily manufacture everyday products using a 3D printer. Whether as a gift or for personal use, this is particularly appealing for accessories like handbags, which can easily cost several hundred euros in a store.

That this vision is becoming reality is now shown by a successful campaign on Kickstarter - a crowdfunding platform where wild ideas (like this and this) are constantly looking for backers. Specifically, STL files for various bag designs are offered there; the actual printing of the handbag is then done conveniently at home.

A wide variety of filaments can be used, such as those infused with silk, wood, or marble. Resizing is also said to be flexible. However, it shouldn't be forgotten that, unlike regular bags, 3D-printed models are usually much more rigid and inflexible due to the material.

Those who support the Kickstarter project will receive at least four files for printing starting at a pledge of $9. With correspondingly more expensive tiers, additional designs or a commercial use license are included. (Please keep in mind: It is always a little bit risky to support projects on Kickstarter.)

Please note: With most materials, the bag is not flexible after printing.

By the way, if you don't have access to a 3D printer or simply want to save yourself the effort, you can alternatively take a look at platforms like Etsy. Ready-printed bags are already available there at prices starting at around 50 euros.
