Over 10 million colors: HeyGears G1X wants to redefine desktop 3D printing

Depending on the selected configuration, the new HeyGears G1 desktop system offers a versatile feature set designed to produce 3D objects without the color restrictions typical of traditional 3D printing. The machine combines three core functions: full-color 3D printing, 3D surface texturing, and conventional 2D flatbed printing. Unlocking the complete range of capabilities requires the HeyGears G1X Full-3D Pack, which is currently available to campaign backers for $3,599—though the usual risks of crowdfunding apply.
With a build volume of 420 x 330 x 130 mm, printed models remain relatively shallow. The system relies on resin rather than filament, yet its mechanical design differs markedly from conventional bottom-up resin printers that pull objects out of a vat. The G1 simultaneously prints dedicated water-soluble support structures, allowing for easy, residue-free removal. With layer thicknesses specified at just 10 to 20 µm, the machine is capable of exceptionally high-resolution prints.
According to the manufacturer, an eight-channel ink system enables the reproduction of over 10 million colors. The high-end i3200-U1HD printhead offers a rated service life of 2,100 operating hours, whereas the budget-oriented F1080 version is rated for only 700 hours. As a result, operators must account not only for higher UV ink costs relative to standard FDM filaments but also for periodic printhead replacements over time. HeyGears' own cost estimates signal that the company is explicitly targeting professional users with this system.
