Anker has officially announced the new EufyMake E1 UV printer. According to the Chinese manufacturer, it’s "the world's first personal UV printer with 3D texture." This means it’s not a conventional 3D printer that uses filament, but rather a UV printer. With such a system, ink or other material that hardens under UV light is applied.
The advantage of Anker’s new printer is that it can print on many different surfaces. While regular ink does not adhere to glass, Anker asserts that the EufyMake E1 works with over 300 materials including glass, wood, acrylic, metal, leather, stone, ceramics and paper. It can print flat and many other objects, such as mugs and bottles.
Moreover, the EufyMake E1 can create 3D textures, which apparently requires just one click in Anker’s printer software. The height of the corresponding image areas likely are being determined simply by the colors. For instance, bubble-free stickers can be produced by using an according UV DTF film.
According to the marketing material, the EufyMake E1’s JetClean self-cleaning system should prevent clogging. Anker states that the model will be crowdfunded via Kickstarter, as backers are supposedly able to save $800, which would suggest a high regular MSRP. Therefore, the UV printer is likely aimed at 3D printing enthusiasts or professional users who would like to print a small number of promotional items or similar.
