2025 Polestar 5 4-door GT car to deliver 884 hp, 900 Nm from dual motors powered by ultra-long SK On NMC cells
Polestar today signed an agreement with SK On to equip the upcoming Polestar 5 electric four-door GT car with SK On's 56 cm NMC cells, the goal being efficiency and high power output to match the EV's 650 kW (884 hp) dual-motor drivetrain.
SK On and Polestar claim that the “high-nickel” battery chemistry found in the 56-cm cells boast high energy density and “superb safety credentials”. The use of NMC batteries could reportedly help keep the Polestar 5's weight down and improve the sports sedan's acceleration, compared to LFP batteries that Tesla is using to reduce prices of the Model 3 in some regions.
The Polestar 5 is expected to enter production sometime in 2025, and the performance EV is expected to deliver up to 650 kW (884 hp) and 900 Nm of torque, while range has been reported to be as high as 373 miles (600 km).
Polestar developed the Polestar 5 using the Polestar Precept concept car as the inspiration for the design. A Polestar 5 prototype was previewed at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, giving us a good look at the low-slung sports sedan.
