The recent filming of Cybertruck footage at Hermosa Beach in California has turned out to be for a review, rather than a Cybertruck ad of the sort that was being filmed in Iceland not long ago. None other than Top Gear's Jack Rix has confirmed so, saying that they are shooting a Cybertruck review when asked how does he know Tesla's CEO who was recently seen riding a similar Cybertruck with white leather interior.
"I don’t know Elon Musk, I’m doing a review of the Cybertruck. I work for Top Gear," chimed Top Gear's host and drove off to film more scenes, or bring the review unit back to base. The person who caught the footage also filmed a manual pop of the Cybertruck's hood that revealed the frunk's interior, lit and with the Cybertruck's logo on the bucket liner.
Apparently, Top Gear is one of the "industry influencers" that were rumored to receive a Cybertruck first, whether as an order delivery, or as promo review units. For the Cybertruck release, Tesla is doing something different than for its other new model launches so far, reportedly shipping 5-6 units to showroom floors from day one, and delivering embargoed units to said "influencers" for review prior to the release date, not unlike new phone launches.
Tesla employees are also a part of the early delivery schedule and have reportedly been asked if they want the dual- or tri-motor version of the Cybertruck. Elon Musk recently tipped that their will be a Performance Cybertruck model, perhaps referring to the top tri-motor variant and that the Cybertruck will be able to do 0-60 mph acceleration in under 3 seconds when in the so-called "Beast" mode.
The industry insiders and influencers have apparently been quoted a Cybertruck price in the "mid to high 70s," too, though it is still unclear if that will be for the base dual-motor Cybertruck, or the tri-motor Performance version.
In any case, if Top Gear, which has had a contentious history with Tesla when it comes to new vehicle reviews, is also in the early promo mix, there might be an influx of Cybertruck reviews as soon as Elon Musk gets off the stage at the November 30 release date event at Giga Texas.
