Polestar Synergy debuts as life-size Hot Wheels electric supercar concept coming to Mattel's toy lineup
After six months of collaboration in the Polestar Design Contest, the brand has announced a winner for the competition and revealed a stunning electric supercar concept, with a 1:1 scale model presented at IAA Mobility 2023. The single-seater concept, called the Polestar Synergy, was the result of the combination of three design concepts, from three contest entrants, into one vehicle.
The exterior design winners were Devashish Deshmukh and Swapnil Desai, while the interior design is owed to Yingxiang Li. The Synergy features proportions previously alien to Polestar, with a silhouette just 1.07 metres tall and 4.56 metres long, and a futuristic design that screams performance.
As far as the interior goes, Polestar describes it as a "floating interior design with control at its core," despite equipping the car with a yoke instead of a traditional steering wheel, which is generally thought to offer better control. The central display location and layout seems to make a lot of sense, though, and steering-wheel-mounted controls are always a bonus.
For a futuristic EV, Polestar's design team and the competition winners seem to have come up with an exciting design reminiscent of something like a fighter jet or high-tech speedboat. That said, it appears that Polestar may have accomplished its goal of generating the same excitement for electric drive trains that is typically reserved for V10 or V12 supercars.
Polestar will work together with Mattel to produce a line of Synergy Hot Wheels toy cars to go alongside the production EVs that the pair are already developing.
