ASUS refreshed the popular ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop at CES 2023 with the latest AMD’s Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 CPUs and Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 GPUs. The result is a 14-inch notebook that can be equipped with up to a Ryzen 9 7940HS and an RTX 4090 if you have the money for it. However, if you are looking for a mid-range gaming solution for considerably less, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 can now be had for only US$1,599.99 at Best Buy instead of the normal US$1,849.99 retail price (via slickdeals). The new discounted price represents a 120-day low rate for the laptop according to Honey’s price history tool.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 on sale packs an 8-core Ryzen 9 7940HS APU with a Radeon 780M iGPU, an RTX 4070 discreet card, 16 GB of DDR5-4800 memory, and 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Display duties are handled by a 14-inch QHD+ IPS panel that boasts a 165 Hz refresh rate and 3 ms response time. ASUS claims that the G-SYNC panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut and can crank up to 500 nits of brightness.

In our testing, the 2023 ROG Zephyrus G14 proved to be a stellar gaming machine with excellent build quality and strong performance. The Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU is an efficient chip that also manages to be about 30% better than the Ryzen 9 6900HS and can go toe-to-toe with the current-gen Intel Raptor Lake mobile parts. The chip is also quite efficient at power limits of 35-55 W.

When it comes to GPU performance, the RTX 4070 is about 6% faster than the RTX 3080 laptop and is only 4% behind the RTX 3080 Ti laptop in our 3DMark Time Spy Graphics tests. The GPU is powerful enough to play almost modern games at 60 FPS+ with FHD resolution and Ultra quality settings. 

Finally, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 also has a serviceable battery life, as we measured a runtime of 7.5 hours in our Wi-Fi test when the screen was set to 150 nits of brightness.
