The iPhone 6 Plus was one of the world's most sought-after devices - 10 years ago in 2014 to 2015, that is. Now, it is so old it will not be able to use WhatsApp any more soon.
The Meta-owned app's latest preview version (25.1.10.72) has been found to be the first of its kind to lose compatibility with older versions of the software for iPhones. It upholds earlier reports that WhatsApp will indeed start restricting its support for iOS in this manner from May 5, 2025.
The discontinuation applies to devices with iOS 15.1 as the newest software they can run, which means that older devices such as even the iPhone 7 (which is still available on Amazon at prices such as $105 today) will not be affected by the change. The 6, 6 Plus and 5s, on the other hand, are not so lucky.
Those who still own the devices might be able to keep WhatsApp on through workarounds such as running an older beta without updating it. Then again, that solution would prevent them from using any new features added to the app thereafter - permanently.
