After U.S. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order sales opened on April 24th, horror stories about canceled Walmart orders emerged. In some cases, payment issues were to blame, or the retailer may have detected bot activity. Yet, some buyers are seeing their orders nullified for simply asking Walmart support questions.
Gamers may have had more success with Switch 2 pre-orders at Walmart than at other stores. Now, one theory is that the retailer is looking for any reason to cancel orders due to overselling.
Despite customers preparing in advance, snafus during the buying process were inevitable. Some buyers used the wrong payment method or entered an incorrect address. After contacting Walmart for assistance, the store wiped out orders without authorization. In one case documented on Reddit, the gamer's account was even deleted. So far, there has been no success in reinstating the pre-order through elevated support tickets.
Another disastrous interaction with Walmart support occurred more recently. A buyer wanted clarification on which storefront the console was shipping to before pickup. After not getting a clear response, the store canceled the pre-order. With limited stock until the June 5th Switch 2 release date, generating another order seems impossible.
The best advice for gamers with active Walmart orders is not to message or call the store at all. Sadly, cancellations are inevitable as retailers process payments before shipping. With many more Switch 2 pre-order opportunities unlikely, hopes will turn to June 5th. Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, Costco, and Target should have additional stock on the Switch 2 release date. In one example, Best Buy will host midnight launch events and issue free gifts to fortunate buyers.
