An IGN poll titled “which next-gen console are you most excited about” left the PS5 with 75% of the vote. Xbox owners and PC gamers have been tempted by the Sony console partially because of PlayStation 5 exclusives like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and many others.

A poll posted by IGN in regard to excitement over the next-gen consoles has now closed and the PS5 has overwhelmingly left the Xbox Series X for dead. The Sony machine took 75% of the vote compared to 25% for Microsoft’s console, and there were an impressive 78,642 votes cast. While some have complained that IGN has a bias towards Sony and thus attracts more PlayStation fans as readers anyway, it is still a stunning result for the PS5. IGN is based in the United States, where the Xbox tends to have a stronger following than in other key markets around the world.

The poll has been discussed on social media, and it seems one of the motivating reasons behind so many votes for the PS5 was exclusives...to the point that even those who currently enjoy gaming sessions on an Xbox or PC are still considering a PS5 purchase. It appears the lure of titles such as Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West and games that have already appeared as PS4 exclusives, like God of War and Ghost of Tsushima, is becoming too much for those who may have originally been loyal to Microsoft's console.

There have also been a lot of complaints about the status of the Xbox Series X in regard to its exclusives. Halo Infinite is already delayed until 2021, and although Xbox chief Phil Spencer claims selling more consoles than Sony or Nintendo isn’t that important, the company certainly wouldn’t want to see its powerful console fade into the distance behind the PS5 juggernaut either. Even if Microsoft sets the price tags for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at huge loss levels, it may still not be enough to counter the heady promise of playing exciting exclusives on the PlayStation 5.
