It has been a few years since Sony announced the PlayStation VR 2 headset for the PS5 console. Priced at $549.99 at launch, the VR headset is a much better device than the original that was released for the PS4. Now, Sony has announced a permanent price cut for the headset.
Starting in March, the PSVR2 will now sell for $399.99, a whopping $150 off its launch price, making it cheaper than the Meta Quest 3 (available on Amazon for $499.99). It will also be available in Europe for €449.99, the UK for £399.99, and in Japan for ¥66,980. Sony has also reduced the price of the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle.
Currently priced at $599.99, the bundle which includes a voucher for Horizon Call of the Mountain in addition to what you get with the standard edition (a PS VR2 Sense controller and stereo headphones) will now be sold for $399.99 in the US, £399.99 in the UK, €449.99 in Europe, and ¥66,980 in Japan. Yes, that's the same price as the standard version which means Sony is practically selling the headset with a free game.
Early last year, it was reported that Sony had suspended production of the PSVR2 due to poor sales. At this new price, those who have been sitting on the fence with regards to the VR headset should be inclined to purchase it now.
When it first launched, the PSVR2 was knocked for lacking backward compatibility with older PSVR games, having a slim library of games, and not having support for PC. Now, there are more games available to play as well as support for PC, although you have to purchase a special adapter to connect it to your PC.
While the headset itself has received a price cut, the PSVR2 PC Adapter and PSVR2 Sense Controller still retain their original prices of $59.99 and $49.99 respectively.
