Reliable tipster shares early details of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2-powered Xiaomi 16 series

Xiaomi has just made the Xiaomi 15 series official in the global market, expanding the availability of the standard and Ultra models. However, just like the last lineup, the 15 Pro remains exclusive to China. Nonetheless, right after Xiaomi's Snapdragon 8 Elite flagships became available internationally, the first few details of the next-gen series emerged.

This leak comes from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, and according to the tipster, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 flagships will sport flat displays with R corners. This would be a major shift as the current-gen phones have micro-curved screens.

Speaking of the screens of the Xiaomi 16 series, Digital Chat Station adds that the company will integrate LIPO technology. This is an advanced display technology that aims to optimize the placement of the display driver chips, which leads to narrower bezels.

So, if this leak holds true, the Xiaomi 16 series with LIPO tech could have a higher screen-to-body ratio and thinner screen bezels. The Weibo tipster further shares that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 phones will come with 3D-printed metal frames. This could reduce the weight of smartphones and make them a little more durable than current-gen devices.

Digital Chat Station also says that Xiaomi could integrate an additional button on the body. That is, the phones in the Xiaomi 16 series could have something similar to Apple's Action Button. The tipster notes that if this button is eventually integrated into the upcoming devices, the battery capacity could see a downgrade.

To be specific, the reduction in capacity could be by up to 100 mAh than the expected value. However, Digital Chat Station claims that all the phones in the Xiaomi 16 series will still have 7,000 mAh or larger batteries (10,000 mAh Anker Zolo power bank curr. $12.94 on Amazon).
