The upcoming Google Pixel 9a has leaked before, with product renders showing off a redesigned back panel with a far more discreet camera bump. Now, however, images that appear to be official Google marketing material have leaked via Evan Blass on X, confirming that substantial design change and revealing some much chunkier bezels than prior Pixel phones.
The leaked images also confirm that the Pixel 9a will arrive with four colour options: black, off-white, coral, and what looks to be a lilac. Judging by these leaks, the Pixel 9a will feature the same flat back and flat side rails as the Pixel 9 (curr. $599 on Amazon), but this time, the camera bump will be almost completely flush with the phone's back glass panel, unlike both the Pixel 9 series and the Pixel 8a.
As for actual camera hardware, the Pixel 9a seems to be sticking with the two-camera setup as the Pixel 8a, and the lenses even seem to be in the same order on the back of the Pixel 9a.
Many smartphone enthusiasts have long been asking for the return of devices with flat backs — meaning no camera bump — even at the cost of some extra thickness across the rest of the device.
It's unclear how this camera bump's design change will affect the rest of the Pixel 9a's design, though. There is a strong likelihood that the Pixel 9a will diverge from the Pixel 8a's typically relatively small footprint to accommodate the extra room the camera hardware will now require inside the phone.
Judging from the images shared by Blass, it seems as though the Pixel 9a may be slightly thicker than the Pixel 8a overall, but it's difficult to draw any solid conclusions from the renders or lifestyle shots. At the time of writing, it is believed that the Pixel 9a will launch around March 19, 2025, so the wait to find out what the Pixel 9a will bring is not long.
