After the success of Persona 3 Reload, a Persona 4 remake seemed inevitable. Following frequent rumors, gamers may finally have confirmation of its existence. On social media, the voice actor who played Yosuke in the original game revealed the news in a surprising fashion. Yuri Lowenthal explained that he wasn't returning for the Persona 4 remake, referencing the unannounced title.
Even when not involved in a project, it's usually frowned upon for a voice actor to discuss a game without a publisher's approval. Besides his role in Persona 3, Lowenthal voiced Peter Parker in several Spider-Man titles. Gamers also hear him in other major releases, such as Diablo 3 and Prince of Persia. Even as a veteran in the industry, Lowenthal apparently slipped up with a premature statement.
Atlus replaced many of the voice actors in Persona 3 Reload, and the practice is not uncommon when recreating older games. Nevertheless, with Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda strived to bring back as many of the actors as possible. The Japanese studio may have preferred a younger cast to represent the students in the popular RPG. More practically for developers and publishers, lesser-known talents are more affordable. Still, Yosuke was an integral and complex Persona 4 character, so the change will disappoint fans.
Lowenthal's Bluesky post comes after a series of rumors about a Persona 4 remake. In April 2025, gamers discovered a registered domain name called "P4RE.JP" associated with Sega or Atlus. Similar activities took place before the arrival of previous Persona games. Also, leaker extas1s predicted that the latest remake would appear at the June 8th Xbox Games Showcase.
