OnePlus Ace 2 series will get to Android 16 on official software support

OnePlus has just updated some policies for its Chinese customers, in a way that brings software support for units of the flagship 11 sold in the country into line with those made for other markets. In other words, the smartphone is now assured of 4 major Android upgrades and security patch upgrades over 5 years, regardless of whether it runs OxygenOS or ColorOS.

The company has indicated that the commitment will cost it no less than 100 million yuan (~US$14.6 million) in terms of the R&D involved; then again, it may just be worth that investment in terms of customer relations and retention, not to mention competing with other OEMs such as Google or Samsung.

OnePlus 11 owner reassurance worldwide notwithstanding, those who have opted for the cheaper Ace 2 flagship variant - or its own new budget alternative the Ace 2V - instead may be wondering about their own coverage, especially given the slightly less common Dimensity 9000 SoC of the latter.

In that case, the brand has announced that these 2023 smartphones' support will be cut by 1 year compared to that of the flagship line: 3 major upgrades and 4 years of patch upgrades. Accordingly, some Indian OnePlus fans may be wondering where this might leave the 11R (the Ace 2 re-branded for that market), particularly as its OxygenOS update projections are given nowhere on its product page.
