Samsung showcases new Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54 mid-range smartphones in four colours
Samsung has launched the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54, two new mid-range smartphones that should improve upon their predecessors in various areas. According to Samsung, the pair have brighter displays, superior cameras and decent battery life. Both models match the 5,000 mAh batteries in their predecessors though, so it remains to be seen whether the Galaxy A34 or Galaxy A54 will deliver better battery life too.
As expected, the pair feature Super AMOLED displays that operate at 1080p and 120 Hz. However, while the Galaxy A34 has a 6.6-inch display, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A54 with a 6.4-inch panel. Accordingly, the Galaxy A54 is smaller than the Galaxy A34 at 158.2 x 76.7 x 8.2 mm versus 161.3 x 78.1 x 8.2 mm. For some reason, the Galaxy A34 is roughly 3 g lighter than the Galaxy A54, with the pair weighing 199 g and 202 g, respectively. Samsung has not confirmed which chipset either smartphone use, although they are thought to rely on MediaTek's Dimensity 900.
Conversely, Samsung equips the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54 with different cameras. On the one hand, the Galaxy A34 has 48 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle, 5 MP macro and 13 MP front-facing cameras. On the other hand, the Galaxy A54 utilises 50 MP primary, 12 MP ultra-wide-angle, 5 MP macro and 32 MP front-facing cameras. Please note that Samsung has only optically stabilised the primary cameras of both smartphones.
Elsewhere, both smartphones will receive four OS updates and five years of security updates from Android 13 and One UI 5.1. Samsung will offer the pair in Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite and Awesome Violet colourways too, with the Galaxy A34 receiving Awesome Silver and the Galaxy A54 receiving Awesome White.
