Xiaomi 13 Pro falls short of competition in camera analysis

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is one of the few smartphones that boasts a 1-inch primary camera, which the company has tuned with the help of Leica. However, DxOMark's camera tests reveal several weaknesses compared to other premium devices, as we found during our tests. For example, the Xiaomi 13 Pro falls short of the Magic5 Pro, which Honor showcased last month during MWC 2023 in Barcelona. The Magic5 Pro remains the number 1-ranked smartphone on DxOMark's leaderboard too, with the Mate 50 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro a way back in second and third place, respectively.

According to DxOMark, the Xiaomi 13 Pro suffers from autofocus errors, exposure instabilities, halo artefacts, tonal compression and a slow shutter button. The latter is especially true in high-contrast scenes, which makes capturing moving objects difficult. That is not to say that the Xiaomi 13 Pro has bad cameras. On the contrary, the device exposes shots well for the most part and captures a decent amount of details when shooting photos or videos. The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a quality zoom camera too, as well as a wide dynamic range in low light conditions.

The same is true for the Xiaomi 13 Pro's audio, battery life and display, which all fall short of expectations. Again, Apple's, Google's, Honor's, Huawei's and Samsung's current-generation flagships eclipse the Xiaomi 13 Pro in these regards. For reference, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is only the company's flagship smartphone for now and may lose that status in a few months with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
