Nokia has announced that its extended detection response (XDR) software for telecomms service provider and/or enterprise customers is to be augmented by generative AI. It will come in the form of an "assistant" based on Microsoft Azure LLMs trained on Nokia's 5G security and technology expertise, backed to make the OEM's current threat detection and resolution twice as fast as it is now.

Nokia's NetGuard Cybersecurity Dome XDR software is touted to protect clients such as AT&T, Airtel and DISH from the prevailing "rising sophistication and frequency of targeted cyberattacks". Now, it is backed to get even better at doing so thanks to a new "telco-centric" generative AI.

The resulting assistant is rated to "quickly combine and interpret vast amounts of information related to cyberattacks" thanks to Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service-associated large language models (LLMs) trained on 5G networks and their security as well as Nokia’s general "telco domain" prowess.

The AI assistant should thus be capable of "mapping adversary tactics" that apply to a wide range of telecommunications technology, concepts and applications, 3GPPRANs, logistics and the 5G Hierarchy of Threats (FiGHT) included.

Nokia projects that its new AI assistant will be capable of cutting the time to threat identification and resolution by up to 50% on its integration into NetGuard Cybersecurity Dome.
