Wistron lends orders from Toshiba

This is the first time Toshiba has given this opportunity to the Taiwanese

Wistron has landed consumer notebook orders from Toshiba for the year 2010 – as reported by Digitimes. This is the first time Toshiba has given a contract to the Taiwan-based manufacturer. This is a clear change of trend, as in the past, Toshiba mostly used to give its notebook orders to Inventec, Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics. It also started outsourcing a small volume of orders to Pegatron Computer in 2009.

Wistron has also received Dell's Vostro series models, whereas Latitude series enterprise notebook orders are shared by Quanta, Compal and Wistron. It should be noted that the Taiwanese notebook manufacturer is already Lenovo's main manufacturer in the year 2009 with order volumes surpassing those of both Quanta and Compal.

Just last week Wistron has planned to invest about $100m on building a notebook plant in China, which will cater to much of the order volume.

In other related news, the company showed of a piece called the PBook at the recent Wireless Japan 2009, although it’s been a while since it came out, and a release in Japan seems unlikely at least in this year.
