Optima OP5-E MID makes an appearance
This device runs on Maemo and is equipped with 3G and GPS
Optima has recently launched a MID (mobile internet device) called the OP5-E which has a 4.3-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen display that is powered by the open source Maemo operating system. Earlier Maemo has been used with Nokia’s internet tablets, but, Optima has decided to equip its new MID with the Maemo operating system. Talking about the external looks, this MID resembles a lot like the iPhone or the Nokia N810 tablet (excluding the keyboard).
The OP5-E MID is powered by an 806MHz Marvell PXA320 CPU with 128MB of RAM and 256MB ROM. Other features on this device include:
· 3G WWAN
· GPS
· 802.11b/g WiFi
· Bluetooth 2.0
· T-flash/microSD card slot (up to 16GB supported)
· 3.2MP camera
This device also has basic voice call and VoiP functionality. It is also rumored that it will incorporate full calling and SMS support at a later stage (through an upgrade). This MID weighs around 10.6oz and has a 2,600mAh battery that is good to keep this device running for a whooping 8 hours at a stretch (as claimed by the company). There is no word on the pricing and availability of this model, but, it is believed that this model will make a debut in the Chinese market. There is also a slight possibility that this device may surface on the US streets as this device has an English language option as well as English input methods. For all you MID enthusiasts in the US, you would have to just wait and watch.
