Netbooks harm notebooks
Analysts report that big sales figures of cheap netbooks are not good for the sales of normal notebooks.
The fears of some market watchers came true. The market analyst Mika Kitagawa from Gardner released a report about netbooks and notebooks that says that cheap netbooks cause a negative effect on the notebook market.
The numbers of sold netbooks in the 4th quarter of 2008 are only 5 percent of all computer sales, but the negative effects of those devices are much bigger. Kitagawa says, that netbooks created a new market sector with cheap prices and the customer want cheap devices.
Therefore, the manufacturers are forced to sell their normal notebooks cheaper or offer some cheaper notebooks too. That causes less sales volume and the market crisis also boosts that effect.
Therefore, Gartner emanates from a drop of up to 20 percent of the computer sales in the last year.
