CeBIT 2010 First-hand: Intel talks on the future of Information Technology
Read on to know about the chip giant’s vision and new product launches

“Creating the future – together” was Intel’s intention at the press conference this CeBIT happening right now in Hannover, Germany. The American chip giant talked about the future of Information Technology, along with its own plan of segmenting, targeting and positioning and how that will affect their future product releases.
Christian Morales, Vice President and General Manager EMEA, talked in length about how IT will shape the future world, how it will improve processes and overall quality of life. He also stressed on Intel’s commitment to develop globally networked devices to resolve environmental, economic and social issues. You can almost feel them in their recent advertisements too, if you notice.
Vice President and Chief Information Officer Diane Bryant then took it further by illustrating Intel’s future product plans, including displaying the brand new 32-nm wafers.
Intel’s press conference, and how can you neglect their first love – Processors! Intel presented its first live demonstration of the Nehalem-EX processor in Hanover in Europe which comes equipped with up to 8 cores. The Westmere-DP server processor with 6 cores and 1.17 billion transistors followed. Both these will be released by the end of the first quarter. Among Intel Atom Processors, there will be a D450, N410 (Single Core) and D510 (dual core).
The company also unveiled a latest design of the highly affordable Classmate PC. The upcoming models will be even more robust and easy to use. Other features include improved Protection against water spray features or Impact and an improved battery life. The one previewed here is a bigger sibling of the existing 9-inch convertible netbook. The latest one features a 10.1-inch screen that can give out a standard 1024 x 600 and a highest of 1366×768 resolution. Like many netbooks today, this model also runs on a Pineview chip that will help the machine achieve up to 8.5 hrs of battery life – as promised by intel. The new model should be touch-enabled as well. Some other features it might have include handwriting recognition, annotation software and e-book management software that should support the open source EPub and the most popular PDF formats.
