In spite of that Inventec is likely to ship more units
Toshiba is planning to shift 40-50% of its ODM orders originally placed with Inventec to Compal Electronics by September of 2009 – as reported by Digitimes. This rumor has caused some concerns in the market about Inventec's possibly less shipments in the third quarter.
However, sources believe that Inventec will still be able to ship 6.2 million notebook PCs in the third quarter of 2009, a rise of 15-20% from the second quarter.
"The forecasts from our clients are positive but our own forecast is cautious," Inventec President Paul Wang told reporters at a luncheon on Tuesday. "The U.S. market was not as bad as we had expected even though demand from Europe is not very good."
It is to be noted that Inventec's recently won Acer 13.3-inch Timeline ultra-thin notebook orders which will enter mass production later this month, while HP has recently given new netbook orders to the company.
