pureSilicon introduces world’s first 1TB SSD Laptop hard-drive
pureSilicon dispayed at CES this week what can be called as world’s first 1TB 2.5-inch SSD.
If you thought solid-state laptop drives are too small and of limited storage capacity, it’s time to meet the big daddy. This week’s CES already has seen breakthrough products pushing down its throat. Among them is the world’s first solid-state drive from pureSilicon with a 1TB of storage capacity called "Nitro". 1TB in 2.5-inch! Boy that is some piece.
Featuring standard SATA II drive interface, the device, is "the most compact SSD per gigabyte: 15.4 GB per cubic centimeter in a 2.5-inch form-factor" -- at least three times greater than any other SSD on the market, the company claims. It also says the high density has been achieved through innovative engineering techniques and its "exceptionally" thin enclosure and that four of the devices can fit into the same form factor as a typical 3.5-inch drive. They have an ultra-thin enclosure with some innovative data storage architecture. Four of these drives can be fit into the space of one 3.5-inch drive, they are that compact. pureSilicon says this small piece maximizes its speed at the SATA II MAX OF 300MBps.
No word about pricing, but it certainly wont be cheap.
