Acer to team up with China mobile for netbook bundle

After Dell, it is Acer who teams up with China mobile.

Acer is reportedly partnering with China-based telecom provider China Mobile to bundle its 13.3-inch CULV notebooks with the telecom giant’s subscriptions – as reported by Digitimes. This move is seen as a strategic decision to penetrate the China market, which should also help in boosting shipments for ODM maker Inventec.

Interestingly, this move came after a similar strategic tie-up between Acer’s competitor Dell and China mobile to provide users its recently launched Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook the ability to surf on the web using CMCC’s 3G network. This way users will be able to surf, check mails, chat, blog, access social networking sites and do lot more while roaming about in a park, train or a café.

China is said to lead the world in Internet Access with 298 million net users, as stated by the 2008 CNNIC Internet Survey report. The report pointed out a net increase of 42% from 07-08 i.e. almost 88 million new internet users were added. International Data Corporation (IDC) (US based analyst firm) forecasts mini notebook growth in China to be around 276% by 2009. So, the partnership couldn’t have come at a better time.

Apart from China Mobile, Acer is also said to be working on a cooperation deal with China Unicom.
