This is especially helpful for the netbooks
Why, because the netbooks often come devoid of optical drivers, but with Blu-ray reading capability. So what do you do when you have to burn that image on to a disk? You can’t go around asking for a laptop or desktop every time! OK, you can get an external DVD-writer, but what about the Blu-ray movie disks your friend gifted you the next day? Folks at Asus have an answer – their new USB powered external Blu-ray driver, the Asus SBC-04D1S-U.
It comes with a vertical stand for easy handling and comfortability, and capable of reading 4.8X BD-ROM/R/RE and writing 8X DVD+R/24X CD-R formats. The Turbo Engine should increase the connection performance between the USB cable and the external drive. Another benefit is that even if you play a standard video, the TrueTheater High Definition (TTHD) turns it into HD-quality images on high-resolution displays. Also present is the BluTuner software that allows you to adjust the brightness level for the external blue light while reading BD discs and reading/writing DVD and CD formats. For security of your data, there is the Disc Encryption that allows you to password protect an entire disc or its partial content.
It comes with a maximum writing speed of 8x for DVD-R, 6x for DVD-RW, 8x for DVD+RW, 24x for CD-R and 16x for CD-RW. The 412gm unit has a dimension of 157x142x21 mm. Although pricing is not sure, it should be in the range of $170-$200.
