It will offer double the performance of Intel Pineview processors
The present age Intel Atom Diamondville chips are set to be replaced by Intel Atom Pineview chips which, according to Intel, will combine processor, graphics, and memory functions onto a single chip. Intel claims that this new platform will definitely improve the performance of netbooks which are currently available in the market but, Intel has always had a vision and it develops products keeping in mind the future of computing. Intel has managed to stick on to this philosophy and has started readying the successor of Pineview in the form of the Cedarview processor which will be launched in 2011.
Intel plans to increase the graphics power on this new Atom chipset platform called Cedarview and according to sources, it is expected that the Cedarview will have double the graphics performance as compared to the upcoming Intel Atom Pineview chipset. The new processor will be based on a 32nm fabrication process as compared to the 45nm Intel Pineview CPUs. The Cedarview will most likely be the first platform under the Atom brand, which will be able to play HD at a sufficiently high quality, including 1080p. The sad part here is the fact that Cedarview doesn’t have a tick mark on the right boxes, which help you play GPU-intensive 3D video games.
At present, Atom processors rely on the integrated GMA 950 graphics which offer less than satisfactory graphics score. Even doubling it won’t do much to save the skin of Cedarview which has to compete with the likes of NVIDIA ion of the future.
