Is Microsoft thinking of pushing Windows Phone 7 to Tablets?
Microsoft could be planning a Tablet too, running Win Phone 7
The buzz around the iPad is so much (the buzz around the iPhone was so much) that other companies have already taken this fact for granted that it’ll be a hot sale, and many of them started bringing out alternative devices, or following the same business model. Microsoft seems to be in the second party. Hexus.net reports of a rumor that the Redmond-based software giant could just be thinking of a Tablet running its latest Windows Phone 7.
Although the rumor is fueled by a brilliant concept given by London-based designer Umang Dokey, it may not be very far-fetched. Whether Microsoft will take cue from this concept is debatable, however the concept itself looks pretty neat, with the extra-slim 8-inch device bearing an in-built stand plate to let it use on your coffee table. Rotate the stand plate in 270 degrees to roll it under the Tablet to make it a keyboard! It also has a pair of joy-sticks at the back of the system.
Although the design is little niche, the overall intent is admirable, and not totally out of context, looking at how well the Windows Phone 7 series is expected to fare for larger screen sizes. At the same time, Microsoft is finding it more and more uncomfortable to squeeze in its desktop operating systems in to these ultra-portables.
Is Microsoft going the Apple way of first introducing the phone, and then the same OS on a Tablet? Well, to make it as much a success as Apple’s, MS will need two things they lack right now – a iPhone-like very good OS (Windows Mobile are generally known as sluggish, although people have high hopes from Windows Phone 7), and a brilliant Apps store like Apple’s (Microsoft’s apps store is a joke). We already heard some negative things about the latest mobile OS like limited multi-tasking, no existing phone upgrades, apps only from Windows marketplace etc., so let’s wait and enjoy a possible battle of giants.
