Rumors are that these netbooks will be out by October
The OS (operating system) wars have just started to gain momentum, companies like Microsoft, Google, and many more, are developing new and improved versions of operating systems that enhance user experience, improve performance, improve boot times, etc. There is another battle raging between the likes of Microsoft (who has not till date disclosed the source code of Windows) on one side and the open source developer community on the other side.
Manufacturers are trying to rope in customers by offering them something different like a different OS. Asus is also planning to offer Eee PCs which will come pre-installed with the Moblin operating system – as per reports by Netbooknews.de. Users will have to wait till October to see Moblin powered Eee PCs. This report has not yet been confirmed so we will have to just wait and watch.
About Moblin: Moblin (short for Mobile Linux) is an open source project focused on building a Linux-based platform optimized for the next generation of mobile devices including Netbooks, Mobile Internet Devices, and In-vehicle infotainment systems. This operating system started out as a project for Intel, and has been designed to work well with the popular Intel Atom processors. The Linux Foundation now runs the project, and a number of other Linux distributions have talked about adopting some of Moblin’s technology for their own netbook-optimized operating systems.
