Pushing back NVIDIA and AMD chip shipping dates
The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is a pioneer in manufacturing chips. They have major clients like NVIDIA and AMD. As you can expect, that means a need to meet the constant demand. The Taiwan Company has reportedly once again run into problems with its 40nm processor manufacturing technology, giving more headaches to its clients overseas.
Due to a major issue, the production capacity dropped down to about 40%, and clients like Nvidia and AMD are expected to face shipment delays of their latest orders from due to this reduced chip yield.
Keeping in mind the recent launch of the HD 5000-series and Fermi on the horizon, both the American giants should be facing huge demand in the festival season, and it may be tough for AIB partners to acquire satisfactory amounts of chips to match it.
"Due to stronger demand for 40nm and 65nm technologies, TSMC 2009 capex has risen further and is expected to be around US$2.7 billion,” said TSMC’s chief financial officer Lora Ho at the company’s recent October 2009 investor’s conference.
