Fujitsu's new Lifebook T900/TH900 tablet PC has appeared in an FCC report
Category: new notebook modelsBy: Morgan Jones
The new notebook features an Intel Arrandale processor and is similar to its cousin, the Lifebook T5010
On the 14th of December EMC Technologies Pty Ltd (Australia), issued an FCC compliance report for an Atheros AR5BHB92 2x2 Half Mini-PCI WLAN 802.11b/g/n adaptor. The Atheros card was tested via its host machine, the Fujitsu LifeBook T5010. The compliance report states that the T5010 is electrically identical to the T900/TH900 (codename 'Souther').
The T5010 was released some time ago, but the T900/TH900 is an entirely new product. Page 7 of the FCC report reveals some of the specifications of the T900. The T900 is powered by a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo i7-620M (1066MHz FSB) and has an Intel QM57 chipset. Both notebooks have a 13.3” WXGA LCD display, and apparently they 'share all other parameters', which could mean that they are identical in size, weight and share other specifications, such as both being tablet PCs.
Intel's i7-620M (codename Arrandale) has an integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and memory controller, and it is a very powerful notebook processor. Recent tests have revealed that the i7-620M could grant users greater performance than the fastest Dual Core CPUs. The T900 will also benefit from i7-620M's low power consumption of just 35W, which is lower than an equivalent CPU and separate GPU configuration. You can find out more about the i7-620M here.
The T5010 scored quite well in reviews, obtaining an aggregate 73.4%, although it is still a very expensive machine. Fujitsu are clearly trying to improve upon the T5010 with the T900's superior specifications. Hopefully Fujitsu will try and fit the T900 with an HDMI port before release, to take advantage of the integrated GMA HD GPU.
A quick search on Fujitsu.com revealed that the company intends to release the T900 with optional integrated 3G, and that it will weigh 2kg, like the T5010, and have a 13.3” screen like it too. Fujitsu's website also confirms that the Lifebook T900 is indeed a tablet PC. The link entitled 'more details' on Fujitsu's website isn't working at the moment however, so the rest of the specifications, the release date and the price are all still a mystery. The T900's recent appearances in the FCC report and on Fujitsu's website imply that the T900 will be released early next year.
