Quartics QVU video processor lets you play HD content on your netbook

Three ways to play HD content on your netbook...

Netbooks are becoming more and more popular amongst users, especially because of features like high portability, light weight, sleek design, great battery life, and good connectivity. This is the main reason behind the fact that manufacturers are pumping out new netbook models every now and then. Despite the popularity, there is one thing that most of the netbook users aren’t able to experience and that is, 1080p video playback. Most netbooks are underpowered and cannot run HD video smoothly resulting in lack of fluidness and smoothness in the video. A number of solutions have now come up which enable the users to play stutter free HD 1080p videos on their devices. Two most popular solutions include the Nvidia Ion platform and the Broadcom HD video accelerator.

The Nvidia Ion platform replaces the Intel Atom’s integrated graphics with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M chipset which is quite capable of playing fluid HD videos. Another popular solution is to have a Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator installed on your netbook which works in tandem with the integrated graphics to accelerate HD video playback. The third and the latest solution comes in the form of Quartics QVU video processor which works alongside the integrated Intel Atom graphics. The main features of the Quartics QVU video processor are:

  • HD movies play more smoothly.
  • Converts two-dimensional movies into three-dimensional ones in real-time.
  • Video will look sharper, with better dynamic range, more accurate colors, and deeper contrasts, particularly whiter whites.
  • Compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Google Chrome operating system
  • Compatible with the latest Intel Pine Trail platform
  • Helps in conserving battery life by freeing the processor from performing complex video processing

Quartics is targeting the product at netbooks, televisions, and set-top boxes. The Quartics QVU video processor will not be available to the consumers directly but it will be available to consumer electronics manufacturers. Early adopters of this technology might include names like Acer and Samsung. We will let you know when these devices appear in the market. Till then if you want to play HD content on your favorite little netbook you can opt in for the Broadcom HD video accelerator or go for an Nvidia Ion powered netbook.
