ASRock Multibook G22 is a 12-inch Dual-Core netbook

Another Taiwanese company has something unique to offer.

Another Ion-powered netbook! A day after Dospara launched their Ion-powered netbook powered by a dual-core 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor; Taiwanese Motherboard maker ASRock announced their take on a powerful netbook by introducing the Multibook G22.

It is powered by the same 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor, and has a 12.1-inch display panel with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The G22 comes with a good 2GB of RAM, a huge 320GB 2.5-inch SSD (supports upto 500GB), and a 10-in-1 card reader. Other features include a VGA port, 3 USB ports, and HDMI output, audio jacks, Ethernet and a 56k modem.

Wireless connectivity is taken care of by the 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It has a 6 cell, 4400mAh battery that should give just over 3 ½ hrs of juice, and a DVD drive that even if plays HD videos, the NVIDIA Ion graphics card can easily handle because it supports DX10 or 1080p HD-DVD/Blu-ray playback. ASRock also throws in a 1.3MP Webcam. The pricing and availability is not known yet.

Till now ASRock has only one portable computer in its kitty – the 15.6-inch 16:9 widescreen Multibook M15, which has an Intel Dual-Core T1400. It is not clear whether ASRock wants to term the latest member of the Multibook series a netbook – it is a classic example of the thin line getting blurred between the definition of a notebook and a netbook. Netbook are generally perceived to be sub-10inchers (this one is 12.1-inch), netbooks generally have an Atom or a CPU of the same category (it has a Dual-Core) – the G22 also pushes the limits of a netbook-ish memory and hard-disk.
